Exercise: The Major Areas of Your Life

A good way to see where you are in your life today is to assess how satisfied you are with the major areas of your life.  Rate your satisfaction on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being high and 1 being low.

The major areas of your life are:

•  Emotional – your mental health.
•  Health – your physical well-being.
•  Career – your livelihood or profession.
•  Financial – your monetary worth or well-being.
•  Spiritual – your beliefs about the world  and yourself.
•  Relationships – your thoughts, feelings, and interactions with other people.

On a scale of 1 to 10, where are you in each of the following areas today?

Health  1—2—3—4—5—6—7—8—9—10
Spiritual  1—2—3—4—5—6—7—8—9—10
Career  1—2—3—4—5—6—7—8—9—10
Financial  1—2—3—4—5—6—7—8—9—10
Emotional  1—2—3—4—5—6—7—8—9—10
Relationships  1—2—3—4—5—6—7—8—9—10

Clearly mark with one colored pen where you are today.  Then, with different colored one, mark where you want to be within a certain time-frame.  This will help you will see where you need to improve.  The model helps you maintain a sense of balance in your life, and keep track of your over-all progress.

A life without a sense of balance will not run smoothly.  You want to keep trying to improve the quality of your life.  When a few aspects take off while others lag behind, you will want to focus on those lagging aspects to bring them up to speed.  Otherwise those specific parts will hold you back.

Later on, when we come to your alternatives for your future, you will want to come back to this exercise.  By describing each of your alternatives, you will get a better understanding of the implications of each.
