Naturally, everyone wants to avoid pain.  The drive to avoid pain is perhaps stronger than the drive to gain pleasure. Everyone will experience some level of pain.  It is an inevitable part of life.  Therefore, you need to be aware of what gives you pain.  You can even decide now on what kind of pain you will be likely to feel.  You need to evaluate your alternatives in the light of what gives you pain.  And you want to decide on an alternative that minimizes the pain you expect.
